To Emily (Dickinson at Amherst)
You wrote a poem a day
and then put them in a drawer.
having quietly had your say
with nobody asking why or what for.
But since you used language with great dexterity
your thoughtful poems were re- discovered by posterity
and no longer tucked inside.
they became admired far and wide
Nowadays, we would-be poets by the dozens of dozens
don't simply write for nieces and/or cousins
But shout out to the world as far the Internet may afford
but perhaps unfortunately, the great majority are still ignored
But genius or dunce
we speak out at once
which at least gives some satisfaction anyway--
and that's about all I'll have to say today..
