Memory

 Memory

Bob Hope is still a memory to me
even if  he may not be to Thee

and he once sang a song quite suitable for old-timers--
at least those not yet suffering from Alzheimer's--

expressing his great gratitude
for some former displays of pulchritude.

And Monsieur Proust though allergic and gay
locked himself in corked-lined room for years anyway

writing a long Masterpiece until he was no longer a rookie--
all brought on and cued by the scent of a cookie.

But I am content though it's much less deep
if  my limping evening's memory deferred
simply helps me  be able to do a crossword
the next morning after a good  night's sleep.
