Sumner Redstone's ex-girlfriend stands to lose $70M after new will

Sumner Redstone’s lawyers are arguing that Manuela Herzer, the ex-girlfriend of the ailing media mogul, is no longer part of Redstone’s will and is not entitled to $70 million in inheritance, according to reports.
Citing a new court document filed Tuesday, Varietyand The Wall Street Journal reported that Herzer was named in Redstone’s will until the 92-year old former chairman of Viacom and CBS Corp. ended the relationship last fall and rewrote the will. Herzer has filed a lawsuit, seeking to be reinstalled as his health agent.
Redstone’s previous will stated that Herzer stood to gain $50 million and his $20 million house in Southern California, the court filing said.
In October, Redstone removed Herzer, 52, as his health care agent and ordered his estate to go to his charitable foundation, Variety’s report said, citing the court filing.
Redstone, who is rumored to be too mentally incapacitated to be involved in running corporate boards, was chairman of the boards of directors for both CBS Corp. and Viacom until last week.
On Feb. 3, CBS, which was spun off from Viacom in 2006, announced that its board had voted to promote CEO Les Moonves to board chairman, replacing Redstone. A day later, Viacom’s board made a similar move, elevating CEO Philippe Dauman as executive chairman. Redstone became chairman emeritus of the companies, ending his managerial involvement.
A judge in Los Angeles is scheduled to rule later this month on a motion by Redstone’s lawyers to throw out Herzer’s lawsuit, Variety reported.
