ON LIFE AND LIFE AND IMMORTALITY

IMMORTALITY is granted to none, 

not even to those who  carefully  avoid having  too much fun,

for no one winds up ultimately winning

by having been either saintlike or sinning,

whether exercising, without much flab, 

or monitoring  numbers from the lab.

Yet, though no one has been clever 

enough to have  lived forever,

there is  still  something good to be told

about   just getting to be  so old

that in life's December

one fails to remember 

any  good reason why 

one should ever die.

It’s up and down

If I were playing the market I would be thrilled

Thinking I was clever and highly skilled

To see the rapidity with which my points rose

Over a weekend of light eating and repose.

On Wall Street 15 points is a celebratory winner

On 96^th Street, the outlook is depressingly dimmer.

Is the mild above nipple pain, and sense of flutter

A psychological insertion, or a physical stutter?

I know I would feel more secure in midtown

If my points were more inclined to go down

My goal is live well without vascular scar

And never again, from 100, deviate too far.

Tonight at 148, down eight.

I saw no reason to celebrate. 

I will continue to write of pressure fluctuations

Until there are low score stabilizations.
