Birthdays

I wrote this in honor of my (younger) brother.  His  birthday is  April 6, but at my age, you don't wait 3 days, either  to eat a banana or write a verse. HZL

Birthdays:

According to a noted sage,

whose name was Satchel Paige--

and he could pitch very well too--

A Birthday isn't simply a matter of age

but of what you still can or can't do--

like falling in love or  writing a thoughtful page.

So,instead of counting years

let's just hold close to our Dears,

while  trying hard  to ignore life's pains--

and not worry about being   too old for a bagel with smears,

or complicated games that tax our brains,

and, instead,  put away all life's   fears. 

After all, despite what anyone might say,

it's really just another Day,

which marks a certain point in our earth's orbit

and with any luck, many? more may still come our way

as, hopefully,  our circumstances will permit.

So, Let's All Go Out and Play!
