TO AVOID GRAVE DEFEATS

TO AVOID GRAVE DEFEATS
When you're old enough to have one foot in the grave
then it's time to be cautious rather than brave.
Let others play The Hero
your interest should be zero.
He who decides to take care
rather than unthinkingly dare
or perhaps even run away
may often live another day.
Because you must agree when I say to you
that one foot in the grave is still better than two,
and so to common sense let's make concession
and curb untimely heroics and aggression :
THE BETTER PART OF VALOR (REMAINS) DISCRETION.
