Justin Trudeau elected as Canada’s prime minister

Canada may have  just shown us the way to go (geau?)

by its selection of Justin Trudeau

as its new Prime Minister

rather than  someone more sinister.

Let's all give a (an?)  hurray 

for such good Liberal  DNA!

If only here we could find a similar remedy,

someone as charismatic and  brainy as a Kennedy

Or else  one who offers a kinder, gentler  hope,

Like Francis, the current Pope,

but none of their offspring

 are in the offing. 

Instead,most of our present candidates seem rather awful

as well as, often   on the border of unlawful.

In  any case, the world seems crazy-- and headed for war

And, though this is a story we've heard enough before,

 We can't be lazy-- this time it's  one we can't   afford to ignore.

For now  it will be more dangerously peculiar.

with bearded Ayatollahs, their pals and foes,

 all intent on  building   missiles  thermonuclear

while  the rest of us, and what  like and love the most,

could  soon  become just piece-ful  radioactive toast.
