Halloween Week, 2015

(Melina Mara/The Washington Post)
The former secretary of state emerged unscathed from a hearing in which the 2016 race quietly loomed large.

Halloween week, 2015

With a fiery French multiple death scene

and a Mexican storm much more than drizzly,

Halloween week, 2015

is already looking grisly ,

But America's Chief Witch-in-Waiting

despite growing bags beneath her eyes

and all that Republican baiting

is doing quite well – isn't that a surprise?

I suppose there is plenty to admire

in someone so steadfast under fire

who always has something to prove

because she seems difficult to love.

Still, even if this week is already quite tough,

how will she, and we , do when the going really gets rough?

Emergency workers raced to the scene of a horrific head-on collision between a bus packed with elderly and a truck near Bordeaux in southern France Friday morning, which killed dozens, news reports said.
At least 42 people died in the head-on crash, after which the bus, carrying elderly on a day trip through French wine country, burst into flames. Some local French news reports said up to 49 people lost their lives, including the bus driver.
Several people were also injured, news agencies reported from France.
An official with the national gendarme service told the Associated Press that the fiery crash ccurred near the town of Puisseguin, and that the death toll may have been so high because the bus caught fire.
French President Francois Hollande, on a visit to Greece, said the government was “totally mobilized” to help after what he called a “terrible accident,” reports said.
Scores of emergency workers in the region were mobilized to help, officials were quoted as saying.
Gilles Savary, a lawmaker from the region, said on BFM television that a bus company from the town of Libourne was leading the group on a tourist trip, the Associated Press reported. The group had just left on the day trip, reports said.
Savary called it one of the worst crashes in recent years in the region, according to the AP.
French media reports said some people managed to escape the blaze that followed the crash, mostly by breaking windows.
The weather in the region was reported by news agencies to be overcast Friday morning but not rainy.
