Here's a message

To all you chordates,

Mammals and other vertebrates:

 Life is difficult enough as such

So, better be wary of loving too much.

Even if you're missing her kisses or  his,
There's one thing life teaches and that is this:

Even though pleasure's never   everlasting,

Eating is always  better than fasting.

And you don't have to be very clever
to realize some things may be past forever.

And until this basic lesson's learned
One's future equanimity can never be earned.

But how to teach  this meaningfully  to a young  child or pet,

may be  something that hasn't been discovered yet.
