The Next Epic Drama on TV?

The Next Epic Drama on TV?

For those addicted to  British TV  that's far from  shabby--

whether houswife,  servant or professor--

now there's  news of a probable  successor

to the sixth and ending season of Downton Abbey.

It will not be an amusing tease

or   cartoon  series like Futurama--

it's War and Peace with  Love and Unease,

that    may soon be the next great  American Television  Drama

It takes place a century before the horrors of World War I

and in addition to  pageantry

It will not just be fun,

but will have its own sorrows since

there are layers of complexity

between Natasha and the Prince

triangulated by Pierre

with  counterpoint from  Napoleon's wars also   there.

Plus,  it's Russian and based on Tolstoy,

 so, we should expect

something  grandly epic

not just a simple Girl Meets. Boy,

Yet,  based on our  past History,

though  it may be great for thee,

will  it, still, perhaps be,

  "Not for Me?"

With love to lead the way. I've found more clouds of grey than any Russian play could guarantee. I was a fool to fall and get that way; Heigh-ho!

War and Peace, episode three, review: 'utterly captivating'

The third episode of Andrew Davies's adaptation was a dazzling mazurka of roiling passions and misplaced affection, says Benji Wilson
