A new device for absent lovers?

It is almost Black Friday

and I shall scour the ads--

whenever the local newspapers come by--

to see :  has  someone invented a machine to prevent

 and/or  ease the pain of  a distant lover's lonely sigh?

 If so, it may become one of this year' s Christmas fads.

Its audio system I hope will be clear

and able to whisper sweet nothings to the ear

while its arms  covered with leather and lace

offer a  soothing, if somewhat  mechanical, embrace.

However,if  it develops a programming jam or two,

 

Ii could then further frustrate me and you

because just when we'd like the gadget to get bold

instead the needed   tech support will  be on hold

and rather than  feeling  with this tool almost as if  belly to belly

we'll be  appealing to some barely comprehending   fool  in New Delhi.

that you aren't in Kansas anymore.




 In Paris, where if you're a Chinese or Japanese traveling

 the condition can be both dis-orienting and unraveling

Especially if someone's stolen your money ,  passport or visa 

   

while you were in  line to see the Mona Lisa.








 Some returning travelers, to remember, wear trinkets and lockets

 though rarely from a place where they've  suffered  picked pockets

were  "sent into a tizzie"

by the  celestial tin lizzie

which  created  a comet-like scene

after being launched from a submarine.

They wondered why-- is it Fry?--

 this searchlight in the night time sky

had come their way

as if to say

this isn't   the whole movie, just  the preview

of  something much worse coming after you.

Many Californians were puzzled – and some panicked – when a mysterious bright light streaked across the Saturday night sky.

It turned out to be an unarmed missile fired from a Navy submarine, creating an illumination that whisked across the state and was visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona.

A Navy spokesman, Cmdr. Ryan Perry, told The San Diego Union-Tribune that the Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted the missile test at sea Saturday from theUSS Kentucky, a ballistic missile vessel.

On ALS, , A Farewell Symphony?

While it's true that nobody,

no matter how  athletic, rich or clever,

manages to prolong   life's melody

into a symphony that lasts forever,

there's something about ALS

that makes it especially hard to process,

or take with a grain of salt,

as one's  body music   grinds to a halt.

 

After a  muscle twitch here or a clumsy fall there,

with   fewer trumpets horns and strings,

previously  simple jobs like walking or  breathing air

become much harder to accomplish  things 

 

and there is less and less of "you" there. 

And whether physicist, baseball star or CEO,

all  know it  soon may be time to go

and  prepare to   to face the test 

of that inevitable  final rest.
