Mark Rothko Biography, Art, and Analysis of Works | The Art ...
www.theartstory.org/artist-rothko-mark.htmArtworks and analysis: Mark Rothko painted soft, rectangular forms floating on a stained field of color that were heavily influenced by mythology and philosophy.
Mark Rothko, r.i.p.
abstracting recurrent nightmares and despairs,
hanging in a luxury tower frequented by CEO's talking of deals
but then ignored while consuming expensive drinks and meals?
"Hell No",
said Mark Rothko,
who felt that life is too often black
and threatened by mindless attack.
So, instead of being in such a swanky, but doomed, room,
they were removed ,perhaps with eerie foresight,
to later grace an evocative tomb
in Houston, for all to see
while pondering the mystery
of why a man so artistic and intellectually bright,
refused to allow himself more life and light
and, instead, preferred an eternal night.
And it's much too sad, in all of this ,
that he never took a few lessons in bliss
from such fellow Maitres, as Marc Chagall or Henri Matisse.
